about
I remembered now being around the time of finals week and midterm grades. It stressed me out, so I tried to write a song to remind myself and hopefully others that the value of a person is not quantifiable by a letter. Whatever grades you recieve- don't let them ruin your holiday season!
lyrics
Lyrics:
You’ve done everything right since they started keeping score
The community service, the clubs, the extracurriculars
To get early admission to the best institution you finish first in your class
Your resume’s at the top of the pile, you’re hired; congrats
You got your A’s now get to work
You got your A’s now get to work
You got your A’s now get to work
You got your A’s now get to work
There’s more to it, though, and you must know to get out and socialize
You can’t learn from a textbook how to look someone in the eyes
So don’t claim superiority over anyone out hitting parties
The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese
You’ll see that the A’s end up working for the B’s
The A’s end up working for the B’s
The A’s always end up working for the B’s, yeah
The A’s end up working for the B’s
Those kids you thought did just enough
To meet the bare minimum to go unnoticed in class?
Their heads weren’t down they were in the clouds
Scribbling in their margins an idea to give them the last laugh
Just ask the A’s that end up for working for the B’s
At the companies founded by the C’s
The A’s always end up for working for the B’s
At the companies founded by the C’s
But others recognize that the system won’t apply
To what they have in mind for what they want out of life
And know that a degree won’t fulfill their dreams
And when someone has the balls to turn the what if’s off
We celebrate all they achieve
Since the A’s end up working for the B’s
At the companies founded by the C’s
In buildings named after the D’s
Stop- did you once believe in this fallacy?
You’re not a letter grade, fuck the dean
Pass or fail, plus or minus, none of it means
A damn thing about the person you are and can Be
Put down the report card down, open your eyes and Csee
Ink on a page doesn’t define someboDy
And please don't forget for a moment I’d forget the F’s
And that sinking feeling they have inside of their chests
Relax and take breath don’t let me hear you say you’re dumb
Cause you’re not, trust me; you’re listening to one
That thinks you’re not a letter grade, and you wow us off the page
You’re not a letter grade- go wow us off the page
