I’m facing two choices- continue to rent an apartment, essentially burning money each month, or begin to really start saving up to put a down payment on a house, something that could take years to do and would mean having to move back home with my parents until then. As I mull over this decision, I go onto Zillow just to see what’s out there to rent or buy. But my mind wanders to the million dollar listings, and I get caught up in imagining a life I’ll never live. That’s the Zillow Blues- share if you've got them too!

Sometimes I enter my city into Zillow
And set the price of the houses from high to low
Then open tabs for all the different properties
To slip away into a real estate daydream
I ain’t got the money or a family- I got the Zillow blues

A limestone townhome tucked away on Evergreen
What I imagine as a quiet tree lined street
Has 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, and 5000 square ft.
And what’s behind its walls could all belong to me
Until I look what’s in my savings- you can’t shake the Zillow blues

I just can’t help seeing myself grilling in the yard
His and her G-Wagens in the two car garage
A roof deck and a sweetheart to enjoy the view with
And maybe one day kids, a dog; the whole white picket fence
Except I’m only a child myself- crying the Zillow blues

I close my browser after a virtual tour
Wishing I could turn realty to reality more and more
Cause renting just burns my hard earned money
But who the hell can buy a house in 2019?
